Cyprus is located on the north-east part of the Mediterranean Sea and covers an area of 9.251 square kilometers. Nicosia is the capital of the island and the capital of the Republic of Cyprus. Nicosia is located at the centre of the island and it is the main commercial market of Cyprus. The Turkish invasion in 1974 and the occupation of nearly 37% of the territory of Cyprus divided Nicosia in two.
